On 5 November 2025, students of Sembawang Secondary School welcomed Ambassador Dana Baschová, who introduced them to the Czech Republic, the work of the Embassy, and the role of the European Union in the region as part of the EU Delegation’s programme Conversations with the EU.
In the first part of her presentation, the Ambassador focused on introducing the Czech Republic. While many students were familiar with Prague or Czech culture, they were surprised to learn that the popular footwear brand Baťa, well known in Singapore, originates from the Czech Republic. The second part of the lecture was dedicated to the European Union, its global projects, and cooperation in Southeast Asia.
During the discussion, students asked about the position of young people in the Czech Republic, opportunities for civic engagement, as well as education and study possibilities in the Czech Republic. In the accompanying quiz on interesting Czech facts, they had the chance to win small prizes. The visit concluded with a heartfelt moment when the Ambassador received a beautiful painting of Singapore created by one of the students.
We thank the students for their active participation, the staff of Sembawang Secondary School for their warm welcome, and the EU Delegation for organising this lecture series.
