On 4–5 February 2026, the Embassy participated in an EU delegation trip of science and digital diplomats to Gyeongju and Pohang, focused on the Korean model of supporting science, research, and innovation.
The delegation visited key institutions of the Korean innovation ecosystem — the Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC/KIBO), the Gyeongbuk Technopark – Secondary Battery Management Center, the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), and the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), all of which play an essential role in advancing strategic technologies and advanced materials.
In recent years, the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea have significantly expanded cooperation in science and technology. In 2024, both countries agreed to deepen their strategic partnership and expand collaboration into advanced fields including biotechnology, nuclear energy, digital technologies, and quantum research. Korea also announced long‑term investment to support joint R&D projects with Czech institutions, marking a major step in strengthening bilateral innovation ties. Czech academic institutions, such as the Czech Technical University in Prague, have been actively cooperating with Korean partners through new memoranda of understanding focused on energy research, robotics, advanced materials, and machine‑tool technologies. These partnerships support joint research, knowledge exchange, and the development of high‑tech solutions with commercial potential.
The Embassy’s participation in this field trip therefore reflects a broader strategic trend: the growing Czech–Korean partnership in areas of cutting‑edge science, industrial innovation, and technology policy.
