On Saturday the 13th of November 2021, the European Day of Languages was held at "Malli-dong Square" in Seoul. Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with the embassies of the EU Member States in Seoul, organised a "Speak Dating Event". The Czech booth was organized in cooperation with representatives from the Embassy of Czechia in Seoul and also the Ambassador of Czechia Gustav Slamečka actively participated.
Locals had a chance to learn several basic words or even phrases in European languages at the various booths. By showing their language skills at the booths, participants received a stamp for their "EU Passport" and were rewarded with various prizes based on the amount of stamps they received.
The European Day of Languages commemorates the cultural and especially linguistic diversity of Europe and dates every year on the 26th of September. Schools, organisations and institutions organise a number of events around the world to celebrate it. However, due to the anti-pandemic measures in South Korea, the Seoul event was postponed several times and was held with a considerable delay.
