On 18 July 2022, the Head of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah, Mr. Jakub Šlosárek, met with Minister Mazen Ghunaim, Head of the Palestinian Water Authority. The Minister presented the main challenges the water sector faces in Palestine, and the discussion also included possibilities of cooperation between the Czechia and Palestine in the sector.
The Palestinian Water Authority is the main authority in the water sector, the development of which is one of the priorities of the Palestinian government. Palestine faces many difficulties in the field of water management, including lack of access to water supply for households and agriculture, pollution, insufficient capacity for wastewater treatment (only about a third of all wastewater is treated) or lacking infrastructure for the reuse of recycled water. Palestine is seeking to address these problems with the help of prominent international donors, who are funding, for example, the construction of infrastructure. However, they are also interested in sharing experience that Czechia can undoubtedly offer in this area.
