On 8-9 September 2026, the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah, in cooperation with the Palestinian Hydrology Group and Czech companies Ekosystem, Ekomonitor and Colt Defence Solutions, organized a professional programme focused on sustainable water management and resilient infrastructure in the West Bank.
The initiative, Circular Water Resilience: Stepping up to Professional Infrastructure, brought together Czech and Palestinian experts, municipal representatives and technical practitioners to exchange experience and explore practical approaches to addressing water-related challenges. The programme combined an expert seminar with field visits, enabling participants to connect technical expertise with the realities of local water management and infrastructure operation.
The seminar focused on key areas of contemporary water management, including water resource monitoring, groundwater treatment, wastewater management and decentralized technologies. Czech experts presented practical experience from a range of projects and discussed approaches that could contribute to more efficient and sustainable use of water resources. Discussions quickly evolved into a dynamic professional exchange, with representatives of municipalities sharing their own experiences and outlining the challenges they face in ensuring reliable water services for their communities.
The programme also provided an opportunity to place technological solutions within the broader context of local hydrogeological conditions and water resource management practices. Experts from the Palestinian Hydrology Group offered valuable insights into the region’s water landscape, including the management of groundwater resources and approaches to enhancing long-term water resilience. The exchange of knowledge helped foster a deeper understanding of local priorities and operational realities, creating a stronger basis for future cooperation.
A key component of the initiative was a series of field visits to the municipalities of Tell, Talfit and Burin, where participants met with local authorities and technical staff. These visits offered first-hand insight into challenges related to water availability, water quality, infrastructure maintenance and wastewater management. Direct engagement with local stakeholders enabled Czech and Palestinian experts to discuss practical solutions and identify areas where international expertise and local knowledge can complement one another.
The project further strengthened professional links between Czech and Palestinian partners and demonstrated the value of cooperation among municipalities, technical experts, academia, civil society organizations and private-sector stakeholders. By creating space for open dialogue and knowledge sharing, the initiative contributed to the development of new professional networks and generated ideas for future activities in the field of sustainable water management.
The project also reflected the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly in the areas of sustainable water management, resilient infrastructure and multi-stakeholder cooperation. By bringing together municipalities, technical experts, academic institutions, civil society organizations and private-sector partners, the initiative helped connect global sustainability objectives with practical local needs and encouraged collaborative approaches to long-term water resilience.
The initiative also builds on the long-term engagement of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah in the areas of environmental sustainability and innovative technologies. By moving beyond general awareness-raising towards focused technical dialogue and practical engagement with local communities, the project reinforced existing partnerships and expanded opportunities for future cooperation. In this respect, the project represents a natural continuation of previous environmental and innovation-focused activities, while further deepening cooperation between Czech and Palestinian partners in areas of shared interest.
Water security, efficient resource management and climate resilience remain among the most important challenges facing communities around the world. The successful cooperation fostered through this initiative highlighted the importance of sustained professional partnerships, knowledge exchange and locally adapted solutions. Through the combination of technical expertise, field-based learning and direct engagement with municipalities, the project established a solid foundation for continued collaboration in support of resilient water infrastructure, sustainable development and the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.
