On 17 and 18 May 2023, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiří Kozák held bilateral consultations in Palestine.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, he met with Deputy Minister Amal Jadou. The meeting focused on discussing the priorities of the bilateral agenda with an emphasis on trade relations as well as the current situation in the region.
Subsequently, Deputy Kozák met with Minister Mai Al-Kaila at the Ministry of Health to discuss modalities of cooperation in healthcare.
Deputy Minister Kozák also visited the United Motor Trade Co. (UMT) in Ramallah, the exclusive dealer of Škoda cars on the Palestinian market, which have long dominated Czech exports to Palestine. With its General Director, Sameh Masri, Deputy Minister Kozák discussed the position of UMT on the local market as well as the challenges that the company is currently facing.
In Bethlehem, Deputy Minister Kozák visited the Holy Family Hospital run by the Sovereign Order of Malta, which specializes in providing maternity services and care to premature babies. The hospital has long been the recipient of Czech development assistance. Deputy Minister Kozák inspected medical equipment that Czechia provided to the maternity hospital last year through a Small Scale Project and a Tied Financial Donation.
He also met with the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Bethlehem and Chairman of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Samir Hazboun. In 2022, Dr. Hazboun became the first Palestinian ever to receive the Gratias Agit Award for his long-standing contribution to spreading the good name of Czechia in Palestine and to the development of mutual relations.
