
Passover in Kosovo 2016

On April 22, 2016 the association Bet Israel Kosova held a festive dinner for the first night of Passover, called seder. In the presence of members of the Jewish community in Kosovo, friends of Bet Israel association, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and others, one of the most important and oldest Jewish feasts commemorating liberation of Jews from the Egyptian slavery and their way to freedom was celebrated. In accordance with tradition, children took active part in the seder ritual with great interest and joy.
As a guest of honor, Rabbi Meir Alfasi from Israel with his family took part at the festive dinner. Rabbi Alfasi appreciated friendly coexistence of Kosovo Albanians with Kosovo Jews, and rejoiced in the fact that a synagogue will be build in Pristina.
Association Bet Israel Kosova brings together almost 100 active members. Ruzhdi Shkodra is its President. There live 42 Jews in Kosovo in the present. Bet Israel’s mission is “cultivation of traditionally and historically good relations between Albanian and Jewish people to promote welfare and tolerance not only between these two people, but also between all freedom-loving people”.
