Offer of Czech language courses in 2019

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria would like to inform about the offer of scholarships and courses of Czech language and literature for the year 2019/2020. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and DZS (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education) annually offer one or two semester scholarships at selected universities across the Czech Republic, scholarships for compatriots living abroad to attend courses of Czech language, and also scholarships in the teaching methodology of Czech language. 
The applications must be submitted electronically by March 15, 2019.  After submitting the application electronically, please, send a hard copy of the application to the Embassy of the Czech Republic by March 15, 2019.

ad 1) Four-week Czech language course for compatriots: July 22 - August 17, 2019

The next four-week Czech language course for compatriots will take place from July 22 to August 17, 2019. The lessons are supplemented by a variety of extracurricular activities designed to master the fundamentals of Czech language and to discover Czech history, culture and geography. The deadline for submitting the application electronically is March 15, 2019.

The course can be attended by applicants of 18 years of age and older living abroad who are interested in learning or improving their knowledge of the language of their ancestors. In the framework of the language course the applicants will have an opportunity to discover more about the Czech culture and the Czech Republic.

All the Czech instructors are experienced and highly trained. Students will be divided into groups according to their Czech language skills.  Participants will also have an opportunity to take part in various extracurricular activities such as workshops, seminars or field trips. The overall duration of the language course is 120 hrs.  At the end of the course students will receive a diploma attesting their participation in the language course.

Accommodation and food are provided. The medical insurance is covered in the amount prescribed by applicable regulations of the Czech Republic. The financial contribution for the travel expenses in the amount of 5.000 CZK can be requested by the applicant who will be travelling from outside of Europe.

Please note that the application http://www.dzs.cz/cz/program-podpory-ceskeho-kulturniho-dedictvi-v-zahranici/kurz-cestiny/ must be submitted electronically via DZS (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education) website.  Please send two hard copies of the filled and undersigned application form to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria by March 15, 2019.

The scholarship will granted upon the decision of the Selection Committee consisting of  the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic,  the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, DZS  (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education) and the Charles University. Admitted applicants will be informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The course can also be attended by applicants who cover their own fees and expenses.

Ad 2) The course in teaching methodology of Czech language: August 24 - September 4, 2018

The two-week course in teaching methodology of the Czech Language for teachers from compatriot communities will be held from August 24 to September 4, 2018. The course's main objective is to improve the teaching methods of the Czech language. Deadline for submitting the application electronically is March 15, 2019.

Participants will be divided into two groups: teachers of the Czech language engaging with the compatriot communities (Czech for adults) and teachers of the Czech language engaging with the Czech Schools without Borders or analogous organizations (Czech for children). The planned teaching activities provided by the applicant after they have attended the course will be assessed during the selection process.

The course also includes field trips to institutions with significant importance to the Czech language and literature. Accommodation and food is provided. The medical insurance is covered in the amount prescribed by applicable Regulations of the Czech Republic. The financial contribution for the transportation can be requested if the departure date is scheduled within two weeks upon the termination of the course.  Reimbursement of other expenses in the total amount of 1.000 CZK can also be requested by the participant.  Applicants who were not selected to participate in the course can reapply. The course can be attended by applicants of 18 years of age and older.

The scholarship will be granted upon the decision of the Selection Committee consisting of the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, DZS (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education) and the Charles University.  The teaching potential of the applicant in the country of origin will be assessed during the selection process.  The admitted applicants will be informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

 

ad 3) The semester scholarships for compatriots at selected universities across the Czech Republic

The compatriots from South Africa have an opportunity to apply for one or two semester study in the Czech Republic.

Compatriots with good knowledge of the Czech language can apply for one or two semesters of study at selected universities across the Czech Republic. In compliance with the program focus, preference is given to those who wish to enroll in courses in the Czech language for foreigners, Czech language and literature, Czech language teaching, history, ethnology, history of art and theology. Every year 15 two semester scholarships are awarded.  Scholarships can be also divided into 30 one semester scholarships.

Detailed information about scholarships is available at http://www.dzs.cz/ http://www.dzs.cz/cz/program-podpory-ceskeho-kulturniho-dedictvi-v-zahranici/. In case that a student gains a permanent residency in the Czech Republic, the scholarship cannot be granted.

Please note that the application  http://www.dzs.cz/cz/program-podpory-ceskeho-kulturniho-dedictvi-v-zahranici/studium-na-vs/ must be submitted electronically  via DZS  (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education) website. The following deadlines must be met:

  • March 15, 2019 for one semester study in the fall semester of the academic year 2019/2020 (September 2019 – February 2020)
  • March 15, 2019 for two semester study in the fall and spring semester of the Academic year 2019/2020 (September 2019 – June 2020)
  • August 15, 2019 for one semester study in the spring semester of the academic year 2019/2020 (February 2020 – June 2020)

Please send two hard copies of the filled and undersigned application form to the Embassy of the Czech Republic by March 15, 2020.  Please note that the application must be accompanied by a resume, detailed information concerning the study program, medical certification and copy of data page of applicant´s passport.

The scholarship will be granted upon the decision of the Selection Committee consisting of the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and DZS (The Centre for International Cooperation in Education).  The admitted applicants will be informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. An acceptance letter and confirmation of accommodation will be sent to successful applicants via the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria.
