Presentation of Czech culture, art and gastronomy

On Friday evening, December 12, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Phnom Penh dedicated Czech art and gastronomy and organized a presentation entitled Check the Taste – Taste the Czech in the Meta House Gallery. As part of the program, visitors could see an exhibition of photographs by Richard Šrek, get acquainted with a demonstration of Czech glassmaking and taste some typical Czech dishes and drinks. The event also served the compatriots' initiative aimed at establishing an association for the purpose of organizing other cultural and social events.

The exhibition of photographs Czech Republic in Images, by Žďár photographer Richard Šrek, transported Phnom Penh visitors to the environment of the Czech landscape, nature and traditions. The exhibition of photographs was tastefully complemented by a demonstration of Czech glass art, reflecting the tradition of historical glass, artistic glass cut, Art Nouveau motifs and modern design.

The unique event attracted the attention of Czech compatriots and connected many of them with each other. Above all, however, it allowed them to present the beauty and art of their country to their foreign partners, colleagues and friends. More than 130 visitors had the opportunity to taste typical Czech specialties such as pork roasts with cabbage or goulash (both with several types of dumplings, of course) or schnitzel with potato salad. Czech Budvar beer was served and there was a moderate tasting of Czech spirits.

During the evening, the intention to create a compatriots' association and cover other Czech activities in the field of social life, culture and the compatriot community was also announced, and the soon opening of a restaurant with Czech cuisine and a microbrewery was announced. In addition to social activities, compatriots intend to coordinate and support each other in the business environment and help other entities enter Cambodia market.

The Embassy would like to thank the co-organizers, without whom the event, which is extensive by local standards, would not have been created. In particular, the host space Meta House and the co-organizing agency D.Q.D. Consulting. Last but not least, to all participants and especially to compatriots for their support and future initiatives.
