Free access to the Czech labour market for Canadians

As of July 1, 2024, Canadian citizens have free access to the Czech labor market, however, they must still apply for the appropriate residence permit for the purpose of employment in the Czech Republic.

In summary, citizens of Canada are not required to obtain any kind of employment permit according to the Czech law to be employed in the CR, but only a resident permit.

If a Canadian citizen applies (after July 1, 2024)

1) for a Schengen visa, i.e. a short-term visa of up to 90 days for the purpose of employment, he/she no longer submits an employment permit issued by the Labor Office of the Czech Republic;

2) for an employee card, he/she does not submit the vacancy number, the application for a so-called non-dual employee card will be submitted;

3) for a blue card,  he/she submits, among other supporting documents, the number of the vacant position in the central register of vacant positions;

4) Intra-Company Employee Transfer Card - the current practice does not change.

Free access to the Czech labor market is as of July 1 also guaranteed to citizens of Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom,  the United States of America, Singapore and Israel.
