Mr Tenzing Yonten - Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Thimphu (Bhutan)

Tenzing Yonten is a Co-Founder and the first Director of Royal Thimphu College (RTC). He has received a B.A. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Yale University. He worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Trade & Industries of Bhutan for 14 years before he left in 2007 to start RTC. As a civil servant, he has gained professional experience in the Department of Power of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Bhutan and later in Bhutan Power Corporation. He has earned a strong background in a wide range of areas covering policy formulation, planning, project management, contracts, regulation, and operations.

Mr Yonten is currently a shareholder’s representative on the board of the Bhutan National Bank and is also a member of the National Task Force for the Development of the 21st Century Economic Roadmap. He has served on the boards of numerous organizations such as the Druk Green Power Corporation, Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan, Penden Cement Authority, Bhutan Olympic Committee, Bhutan Electricity Authority, the Royal Education Council, and the National Environment Commission. He has also served as President of the Bhutan Basketball Federation and Chairman of Bhutan Telecom. His interests include all manner of sports (basketball, football, golf, biking, etc.), reading, trekking, and travel.

Mr Tenzing Yonten has been appointed as a honorary consul in February 2024. With a strong background in academia and energy sector, Mr Tenzing Yonten focuses on strengthening the Czech-Bhutanese relations in the area of education, economy and culture.
