Czech books for Nauru campus of University of South Pacific

Forty books by Czech writers and/or on the Czech Republic, its culture and history in English were donated to the library of Nauru Campus of the University of the South Pacific, the leading educational facility in the Republic of Nauru.

The range of books  presented to Mrs Alamanda Lauti, Nauru Campus Director, included popular, modern novels by internationally acclaimed Czech authors, along with traditional children’s folk tales, children’s picture books,  books on history and art.

During the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Jaroslav Olša, jr. mentioned the interest of Czech government to support the knowledge of the country around the world, especially the places where the people-to-people contacts were not very active. He also added that he hopes that students and visitors to the best library in Nauru will not only learn, but also enjoy the books, as there are also English-language translations of well-known and acclaimed Czech writers, such as Miloš Urban, Martin Vopěnka, among others, as well as works by classics as Karel Čapek or world-renowned novelist Milan Kundera. The brand new bestselling novel, Spaceman from Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař was also a part of a donation.

Mrs. Lauti said that the new books will add to the existing library collection, and with the relocation to the new Campus, the Nauru community will have access to this unique collection.
