A book titled "Hakà" (Imaginary) - the anthology of European Speculative Fiction in Filipino – was launched on 28 November 2019 in the premises of Instituto Cervantes. The book was edited by Former Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Philippines Jaroslav Olša Jr., together with Czech writer Julie Nováková, and published in cooperation with EUNIC and EU member states in Manila. It is the third book edited by Jaroslav Olša Jr., first being Layag - European Classic Stories in Filipino and second being Agos - Modern European Stories in Filipino.
The book, which was published at Anvil Press, contains more than a dozen stories from European countries by Peter Schattschneider (Austria), Ian Watson (Britain), Hanuš Seiner (the Czech Rep.), Richard Ipsen (Denmark), Johanna Sinisalo (Finland), Aliette de Bodard (France), Michalis Manolios (Greece), Péter Lengyel (Hungary), Francesco Verso and Francesco Mantovani (Italy), Tais Teng (the Netherlands), late Stanisław Lem (Poland), Pedro Cipriano (Portugal), Zuzana Stožická (Slovakia), Bojan Ekselenski (Slovenia), Sofía Rhei (Spain) and Bertil Falk (Sweden).
Hakà is only the third anthology of translated science fiction / speculative fiction ever published in Filipino (the very first one was published by University of the Philippines almost two decades ago, consisted of works by US/British writers, and it was a brainchild of the writer and editor Mario Miclat).
The book is available at National Book Stores in the Philippines.
