The Works of the Čapek Brothers Through the Lens of Czech Studies Scholars

With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and in the presence of Ambassador Václav Bartuška and Consul General David Frous, an exceptional Czech Studies seminar will take place at the University of Glasgow on 23 September. Led by Klára Kudlová of the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences, together with Michelle Woods of the State University of New York, the seminar will focus on the plays of the Čapek brothers and their reception in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Participation in the discussion, dedicated to the cultural and political context of the reception of the Čapek brothers’ plays (The Insect Play and R.U.R.), is possible both in person and online via MS Teams. Admission to the event, hosted by the University of Glasgow, is free of charge. Registration is required. Further information can be found here.
Klára Kudlová (Institute of Czech Literature, Prague) and Michelle Woods (State University of New York, New Paltz) collaborate on the research project The transition of two Czechoslovak Čapek plays in the US and the UK in the 1920s/1930s: Intercultural Contexts, Contents and Political Impacts, and will present the lecture together.
