Visit of Czech Deputy Prime Ministers to Zambia: Strengthening Partnerships and Exploring New Opportunities

From 12 to 15 May 2025, Czech Deputy Prime Ministers Marian Jurečka and Vlastimil Válek visited Zambia. Accompanied by sizeable business delegations, both ministers held bilateral meetings with their Zambian counterparts. The visit aimed to deepen cooperation in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, trade, mining, and digital technologies.

Highlight of the visit was a joint meeting with the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, attended by senior members of the Zambian government. The talks focused on expanding economic and development cooperation, addressing global challenges, and supporting Czech business investment opportunities in Zambia.

Deputy Prime Minister Marian Jurečka held meetings with the ministers responsible for agriculture, mining, labour and social affairs, and technology. The discussions revolved around Czech offers in agri-business, geological services, and digital transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Vlastimil Válek focused on healthcare cooperation. He visited several hospitals, met with the Zambian Minister of Health and representatives of local institutions. During the visit, an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on healthcare cooperation was signed, paving the way for joint health projects, including Czech participation in modernising Zambia’s health system.

The programme also featured a business mission organised by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic and the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Medical Devices. Czech delegates met with Zambian business representatives, institutions, and international stakeholders, presenting Czech technologies and development initiatives.

As part of cultural diplomacy, the Livingstone Museum hosted the opening of a joint Czech-Zambian exhibition titled “Dr Emil Holub: Discoveries of the Legendary Czech Explorer in the 19th Century”. The exhibition highlighted historical connections and fostered ongoing collaboration in the fields of museology and cultural exchange.

The visit confirmed Zambia’s position as a strategic partner of the Czech Republic in Africa. High-level meetings, supported by active business and institutional engagement, led to tangible outcomes and opened new avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
