Screening of the End of the Lonely Farm Berghof

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles together with the Czechoslovak Society of Arts & Sciences in Los Angeles, is delighted to invite you to a screening of the 1984 film gem the End of the Lonely Farm Berghof  (Zánik samoty Berhof, Dir. Jiří Svoboda, 101 minutes), a winner of the Special Prize of the Jury at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. 

The screening will be followed by a debate with the star of the movie Marek Probosz - IN PERSON

About Marek Probosz: Marek Probosz - Polish-American actor, director, screenwriter, author and producer, has over 60 film roles to his credit. MFA in acting - National Film School in Łódź. MFA in film directing - American Film Institute - AFI in Los Angeles. His movies won awards at festivals including: Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian, Moscow, Karlovy Vary, Los Angeles, Houston. He emigrated to the USA at the height of his career in Europe, invited by The American Cinematheque in Los Angeles in 1987 as the "Idol of his generation". Since then, he has worked in Hollywood with the elite of American filmmakers, Oscars nominees, and Oscar winners. His film and television career includes roles in productions around the world. He guest-starred in popular series: Scorpion (CBS), Scandal (ABC), Numbers (CBS), JAG (NBC), MONK (USA). He received excellent reviews in The New York Times, Hollywood Reporter and Variety for portraying cinema legend Roman Polanski in the film Helter Skelter (Warner Bros. 2004). His feature directorial debut - Y.M.I. received the ABBOT AUDIENCE AWARD at The Other Venice Film Festival in 2004.

In 2006, he played the main role in the film Death of Captain Pilecki, directed by Ryszard Bugajski. He recorded Pilecki's Report from Auschwitz as a 10-hour American audiobook by Audible.com. The monodrama performed and directed by him, Volunteer for Auschwitz: Captain Witold Pilecki, staged on Broadway in 2018, received the BEST DOCUMENTARY SHOW award at the world’s largest one actor theater festival UNITED SOLO in New York.

Probosz is a winner of numerous international awards: OUTSTANDING POLE AWARD USA - Culture category, Los Angeles 2023; Helena Modrzejewska award - MODJESKA PRIZE, Los Angeles 2022; Pola Negri Award - POLITKA Lipno, Poland 2022; Polish Diaspora Oscar - GOLDEN OWL - FILM category, Vienna, Austria 2018; MORTUI SUNT UT LIBERTI VIVAMUS medal, London, England 2011; WITOLD PILECKI GOLD MEDAL, Auschwitz, Poland 2011.

Since 2005 Probosz is teaching film and theater acting as Adjunct Associate Professor at University of California - UCLA. Most recently Probosz is touring with his solo production Norwid's Return, globally acclaimed Broadway Winner Best New York Premiere 2022 UNITED SOLO Festival.  Coming to Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles for Two-Night Limited Engagement Sat Oct 5th & Sun Oct 6th.

 

About the Film: 1945: Hitler’s dead, the war’s over, but in the forests on the Czech-Polish bands of Germans who refuse to surrender still hide. One night four of these Germans raid a local farm and take the family hostage.
