ABOUT THE OPERA:
In Slavic folklore, the "rusalka" is a water nymph often feared for its perceived danger to humans. Over centuries, this mythical being has assumed various names and appeared in folk legends across the European continent. Its tale served as the inspiration for Dvorak's beloved Czech-language opera "Rusalka," premiered in 1901. If the story of an underwater princess sacrificing her voice to be with a human prince sounds familiar, that's because it shares its roots with the same legend that inspired "The Little Mermaid!"
