The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has opened a new Czech Consulate General in Manchester primarily to bring consular services to Czech citizens living in the northern part of the UK. Another reason is the significant development of potential of business-economic relations as well as the strong scientific and innovative community in this part of the UK.
Minister Tomáš Petříček then dined in Manchester with Czech émigrés who successfully established themselves in various professions in the UK. The Minister thanked them for spreading the good name of the Czech Republic abroad and for helping to strengthen Czech-British relations. He also presented a bouquet as a thank you to Mrs. Eva Ross, who served as Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Manchester, for her excellent work.
In the afternoon, the Czech Foreign Minister met with the Mayor of Great Manchester, Andy Burnham, to discuss the possibilities of regional co-operation.
In the centre of Manchester, in front of the Central Library, a model of the Škoda Kodiaq was displayed.
The final point of the programme in Manchester was a gala reception in the Art Gallery, on the occasion of the opening of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, where Minister Tomáš Petříček and Mayor of Manchester, June Hitchen, gave their speeches.
