Ceremonial commemoration at the Runnymede RAF memorial

On 9 May 2024, to mark the end of the Second World War, the Defence Attaché in London, Brigadier General Vratislav Beran, together with the Slovak Defence Adjutant, Colonel Peter Sliacky, attended a commemorative ceremony at the Runnymede RAF Memorial, which lists the names of 20,456 airmen who died in the Second World War and have no known grave, 145 of whom are Czechoslovak.

Wreaths were laid in their memory by representatives of the Free Czechoslovak Air Force Association (FCAFA), including its chairman Tom Dolezal, the son of pilot Oldrich Dolezal, a member of 311 Squadron RAF.

On this occasion, Mr Adam Hruška - a representative of the FCAFA, who takes care of the war graves of airmen, works to preserve the traditions and heritage of Czechoslovak airmen, and has long participated in commemorative and ceremonial events - was awarded a plaque by the Director of the Department for War Veterans and War Graves of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. Mr Hruška also cooperates with Czech war veterans in the Czech Republic and participates in their events.
