On Wednesday 15 November, Ambassador Marie Chatardová hosted a concert and reception to mark International Students' Day and the Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy
Among those invited were Czech students studying at British universities and Czech secondary and university teachers working in the UK. The guests were entertained by the young Czech music group "Trio Bohémo", winner of the prestigious British music prize "The Parkhouse Award" in 2021 and one of the most popular Czech artists in the UK.
The reception was followed by a Students' Day debate organised by the British Czech and Slovak Association in the Embassy cinema. Participants in the debate heard from Dr George Scott and Gerry Manolas of the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslvoak Veternas about the Prague student leaders of November 1939 and the Czech contribution to the creation of International Students' Day in 1941. They also heard personal recollections of November 1989 from one of the participants in the student protests on Národní třída, Professor Jan Marek, and the views of today's student generation on the legacy of the Velvet Revolution from a current Czech student at King's College London, Maxim Višňovský.
