A new memorial to Czechoslovak veterans unveiled at National Memorial Arboretum

On Friday 20 June, a new memorial stone was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in honour of Czechoslovak veterans and fighters for freedom and democracy.

Representatives of the Czech Embassy in London attended the ceremony, led by Ambassador Maria Chatardová. The event was organised by the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans, a veterans' organisation that commissioned the memorial. One of the ways in which it was financed was through a public collection. In addition to representatives of the Czech Republic and the Czech Army, the event was also attended by representatives of the Slovak Embassy in London, children of Czechoslovak veterans, local government representatives, and Czech expatriate community leaders.

The National Memorial Arboretum, located in Alrewas, Staffordshire, England, is a British national memorial site covering 150 acres. It contains over 400 memorials dedicated to the military, emergency services, civilian organisations, and individuals. Until this year, however, a memorial dedicated to the Czechoslovak Armed Forces was missing.
