The Third Meeting of Czech Scientists in London

The London Calling! conference took place on Friday, 19 September 2025, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London. Under the auspices of Czexpats in Science, in collaboration with the Czech Embassy and with the support of the Czech Centre in London, the event connects the scientific community across British institutions, disciplines, and generations.

The program, opened with a welcoming speech by Czech Ambassador Václav Bartuška, included keynote lectures, networking, and, for the first time, a moderated discussion. During the flash talks, participants presented their research in just a few minutes. Markéta and Jakub Tomkovi from the University of Oxford shared their journey from the Czech Republic to the British academic scene, and Kamil Jaroň from the Wellcome Sanger Institute gave an insight into how large research institutions and funding systems operate. The day concluded with a debate on “Parenting, Care, and Work-Life Balance in Academia in the UK.” The event strengthened connections within the Czech scientific community in the United Kingdom and created opportunities for new collaborations.
