Czech Christmas at the Ambassador's residence in the Monocle magazine

The December issue of the prestigious British magazine the Monocle featured an article themed as "Consuls and Carols” about Christmas traditions in the Czech Republic. The Monocle´s editors were treated to a sumptuous lunch time feast in the spirit of a typical Czech Christmas hosted by Ambassador Libor Sečka at his residence in Hampstead.

The Czech residence in London was chosen as the only one to represent the Embassies located in Europe. Other residences visited were the Danish Ambassador´s in Washington and the Italian Ambassador´s in Tokyo. The Monocle is one of the most prestigious life style magazines with a global outreach. It focuses on international affairs, business, culture and design.

Ambassador Sečka during the lunch at his residence highlighted the fact that the Christmas holidays were a great opportunity to promote his country. Especially having in mind that among the biggest Czech "soft powers" are crystal, glass and music, which during the celebration of Christmas in the Czech Republic, play an irreplaceable role. For those abroad, the Christmas holidays are unique opportunity to present national traditions to their international friends and colleagues and also a way to deepen ties with expatriate communities that during the Christmas season gain a deeper feeling of belonging to their nation and pride in its traditions.

On the menu were creamy fish soup, fried fish in breadcrumbs with potato salad and traditional Christmas cake as a dessert. Everything was meticulously prepared by the Chef of the Czech Embassy, Mr Radek Kludka. The wine served was a Moravian Pinot Blanc.

The beautiful offering on the Christmas table was enhanced and embellished by the magnificent Christmas decorations made by the GLASSOR company from the Czech city of Liberec: www.glassor.cz/en We would like to thank the GLASSOR company for cooperation and look forward to further joint projects.

The Czech Embassy in London considers the article in the Monocle as an extraordinary success and a big achievement in the field of public diplomacy, not just in the UK, but throughout the world. We believe that it will appeal to many readers worldwide and show the Czech Republic from a warm festive angle.
