On 12 July 2017, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Libor Sečka, held a promotional event "Czech Beer Day" at his residence in London. It was organised by the CzechTrade Agency London.
Czech Beer Day was opened by H.E. Libor Sečka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic, followed by an expert introduction from Martin Macourek, the Director of CzechTrade London, then the tastings and business networking began.
Czech Beer Day introduced Czech beers mainly from small to medium-sized regional breweries and microbreweries that have the capacity and lifespan of beer suitable for export to British merchants. These breweries produce high-quality lager beer, which is a world-unique due to the long process of production.
The event was attended by the following Czech breweries: Budweiser Budvar, Bernard, Primátor, Microbrewery Matuška, Ferdinand, a group of breweries represented by Lobkowicz (Lobkowicz, Platan, Vysoký Chlumec, Ježek and Rychtář), Zubr, Pernštejn, Únětický Brewery and also a “beer for women", Aurosa. The breweries Matuška and Pernštejn, besides presenting traditional Czech lager, also introduced the Czech concept of an ale type beer, with a mixture of Czech, British and American ingredients. The presentation was completed by the famous spirits distillery Rudolf Jelínek which produces slivovice and absint, among other brands.
In total, the event was attended by approximately 200 people, among whom were representatives of British business groups, distributors (eg. Marblehead, Bibendum, Vertical brands, Enotria and Fullers), British beer journalists and bloggers, as well as representatives of the hospitality industry, hotels, restaurants, bars, catering companies and festival organisers.
Due to the great success of the event Czech Beer Day will return to London in July 2018.
CzechTrade London would like to thank the volunteers for helping to make Czech Beer Day flow smoothly.
