Czech Embassy Celebrates National Day and 30th Anniversary of Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuala Lumpur organized on the 24 October 2019 at the JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur a reception coupled with a musical performance to celebrate the National Day of the Czech Republic and the 30th anniversary of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day. 280 guests attended both the reception and the concert. The Malaysian government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports the Honorable Steven Sim Chee Keong as the guest of honour. Amongst the guests were also representatives from the bank and finance sector of Malaysia, representatives of the State sector and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Universities, journalists, diplomatic corps, Czech compatriots and others.

The ceremony was opened by the address of H.E. Milan Hupcej, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, in which he mentioned the importance of the Velvet Revolution, Czech membership in the NATO and EU and highlighted main goals of our bilateral relations. The musical performance was delivered by the Czech pianist Karel Vrtiška, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur at the invitation of the Embassy. He presented classical pieces of Czech composers B. Smetana and A. Dvořák as well as more recent rhythms of J. Ježek. The Czech Embassy also provided Czech beer for the reception and in collaboration with JW Marriott offered typical Czech dishes. During the reception also the exhibition “1989 As Seen by the Photographers” was presented. On this occasion, the Embassy remembered the importance of the 30 Anniversary of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day.
