
Czech Art Glass at the Unique Exhibition in the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Malaysia organized an exhibition of 22 artworks of the most famous Czech art glass personalities from the 2nd of May till 11th of June, 2017, in the Galeri Petronas in Kuala Lumpur. Concerto Glassico, as the exhibition was named, was prepared exclusively in order to be shown in this prestigious modern art gallery, which is located in the famous Petronas Twin Towers.
Among the 12 glassmakers, there were personalities such as Libenský – Brychtová, Pavel Hlava, Jaroslav Svoboda, Vladimír Klein, Marian Karel or Petr Hora. The concept of the exhibition emerged from the discussions between the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Galeri Petronas and it was based on a photographic publication of ”Glass Dialogues“ by the leading Czech glass´ photographer, Professor MiroslavVojtěchovský, who was also the curator of the exhibition. The value of the collection of the 22 artworks, whose weight exceeded 1.000 kg, was more than 6 million Czech Crowns. The project was prepared in the Czech Republic by the Createam Agency.
The exhibition was inaugurated on the 3rd of May, 2017, by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malaysia, Mr. Rudolf Hykl, with the participation of the Petronas top management, representatives of the Malaysian Government, business and cultural community, diplomatic corps and media. “The Embassy set as its goal of this unique and organizationally and financially demanding project, an introduction to the Malaysian and international public of the Czech glassmaking in its best artistic quality. The Czech Republic is very strongly associated with glassmaking”, said Ambassador Hykl. “It represents also our efforts to assist Czech glassmakers, and Czech glass manufacturers in general, to establish their presence in the growing markets of South East Asia“.
The exhibition was widely promoted, among others in onboard publications of Malaysia Airlines, local media and social networks. In the program, there were also Czech glassmakers seminars with the participation of one of the finest Czech glassmakers, Mr. Jiří Pačinek. Audiovisual presentations about the history and presence of the Czech glassmaking, were another form of interaction with Malaysian public.

The exhibition of Concerto Glassico took place at the Galeri Petronas in the luxurious commercial centre of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Works of Czech glass artists were displayed for public viewing from 2nd of May till 11th of June 2017.

The exhibition was launched by H.E. Rudolf Hykl, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malaysia. In his speech, he introduced the tradition of Czech glass making and its unique place in the world.

Galeri Petronas received into its international collection a donation of an art piece called Magic Time by a Czech artist Lubo Arzt. Mr. Ladislav Kopecký of Createam presents it to the Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications of Petronas Mdm Zahariah Abdul Rahman.

Czech glass artist Jiří Pačínek introduces his work to the guests of the opening ceremony. During his stay in Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Pačínek conducted a public lecture on the Czech glass design.
