Veronika Stromšíková Will Become the New Director General of the Security and Multilateral Section

Veronika Stromšíková will join the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 2024 as Director General of the Security and Multilateral Section. She will replace the Director General, David Konecký, who will move to Brussels as the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to NATO.

"The leadership of the MFA is being strengthened by another prominent career diplomat who has dedicated most of her career to promoting the Czechia's reputation abroad, both in the field of human rights and most recently in her role as director of the department responsible for controlling arms exports and imports and circumventing sanctions against the Russian regime. I am glad that we will have a professional with this experience as a Director General at a time when we have to fight against Russian imperialism," said Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský.

"I am looking forward to my new role. In truth, I do not consider being a woman to be a crucial element. The section I will lead is a well-functioning organism after the work of Martin Povejšil and David Konecký. From a security point of view, times are wilder than we could have imagined just a few years ago. We as the Czechia must clearly respond to this using all the tools we have. That is why both adjectives in the title of the section I will lead are important to me: security and multilateral," said Veronika Stromšíková.

Veronika Stromšíková, the current Director of the Control Policy Department, has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1999. Her first posting was to the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, she served as Director of the Human Rights Department and as Director of the UN Department. She then worked abroad at the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva and as Director of the Office for Strategy and Policy of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague.
