Four pieces by Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Austrian filmmakers in two hours were offered to guests of the Central European Short Movie Evening in Islamabad.
The attempt of four cooperating embassies to introduce Central Europe through short films brought an interesting confrontation of genres ranging from a moral anecdote (Sing, Hungary) through a psychological short story (Excuse Me, I'm Looking for the Ping-pong Room and My Girlfriend, Austria) and an absurd drama (Atlas, Poland) to horror (Leshy, Czechia). The initiative was praised in the opening speech by the Mayor of Islamabad Shiekh Anser Aziz and, after the performance, by a hundred viewers at the Islamabad Marriott Hotel on 28 November 2019.
The Czech film, referring to the scary legacy of Karel Jaromír Erben, Edgar Allan Poe of the Czech poetry, was kindly provided for screening by its author Pavel Soukup.
