BHM Renewables, owned by Czech investor Tomáš Krsek, has been active in Finland since 2017, when it became the majority shareholder of the Finnish developer Winda Power. Today, the company operates under the name Winda Energy and has established itself as one of Finland’s leading renewable energy developers. A major milestone came in 2020, when the company commissioned its first Finnish wind farm, Hirvineva, in Liminka near the city of Oulu. With an installed capacity of 20 MW, the facility can supply electricity to approximately 7,000 households. Since then, the company has focused primarily on the comprehensive development and permitting of wind farm projects including their construction. As a result, it has developed unique expertise related to the key preparatory phases of such projects, from the initial concept through to obtaining all necessary construction permits and support of involved municipalities and stakeholders. Winda Energy has successfully applied this know-how to numerous wind farm developments across Finland, with a total capacity of 2 GW.

Since 2025, Winda Energy has expanded its activities into new areas. One of these is the development of battery energy storage facilities. The company is currently involved in the construction of four storage projects with a combined capacity exceeding 300 MWh. The first facility, located in Rautavaara, will be commissioned later this year, while construction of another project in Jämsä began in early 2026. Both projects also involve the Czech technology company Second Foundation. Two additional facilities in Äänekoski and Laukaa are scheduled for completion during 2027. At the same time, the company is preparing further projects which could bring the combined capacity up to 850 MWh. As with wind farms, Winda Energy focuses on the project development phase, from initial planning through to the issuance of construction permits, as well as their construction. “Battery storage facilities can respond instantly to imbalances between electricity production and consumption, strengthening security of supply, improving grid reliability, and helping stabilize electricity prices,“ points out Michal Prause, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Winda Energy.

Another new chapter for Winda Energy is the development of data centres. Finland is experiencing rapid growth in this sector, with more than 40 data centres established so far, while several leading global ICT companies, including Microsoft and Google, continue to expand their operations in the country. Finland offers ideal natural conditions for data centre development, including a cool climate, suitable bedrock foundations, affordable electricity, and abundant water resources. Winda Energy has already confirmed that it will prepare construction of two new data centres, each representing an investment of approximately EUR 500 million. The facilities will form part of a major European data platform being developed by Gi21 Capital, a Prague-based investment company specializing in the development, construction, and operation of data centre infrastructure across Europe. The first data centre will be built in Rastikangas, in the Finnish municipality of Janakkala, and is expected to reach a capacity of 100 MW. A second project of similar scale is planned in the municipality of Keminmaa in southwestern Lapland, while preparations for a third facility are still at an early stage. Once completed, the combined capacity of all three data centres is expected to reach up to 300 MW. Construction of the first data centre is scheduled to begin next year, with operations expected to commence in 2028. Winda Energy is responsible for site preparation, for coordinating the projects with relevant authorities and regulatory requirements, and for their construction.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki has been cooperating with BHM Renewables (formerly Green Horizon Renewables) since early 2018, when it assisted the company in identifying investment opportunities in Finland.
