Villa Tugendhat – Screening at Ark Rex Architecture Film Festival

We would like to cordially invite you to the screening of the short film Villa Tugendhat, directed by Jiří Lenhart, on 16th November 2025 at Bio Rex (Mannerheimintie 22–24, Helsinki). The film will be presented at the Ark Rex Architecture Film Festival.

Duration: 11 min | Year: 2024

The film is a poetic study of the legendary Czech building Villa Tugendhat, designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and built between 1929 and 1930 for Greta and Fritz Tugendhat. In this short film, viewers are invited to move freely through the villa, from room to room and floor to floor, accompanied by van der Rohe’s own reflections on the building and the principles behind its design.

Its production took more than two years, capturing all four seasons. A crystal-clear glass sphere guides us throughout the film — a symbol of perfect form and space, much like the villa itself. The film celebrates the timelessness of this architectural masterpiece, which continues to inspire generations across cultures.

Architectural purity, the seamless blending of interior and exterior spaces, advanced technical solutions, and the use of noble and exotic materials — these are the key attributes that earned Villa Tugendhat its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.
The film was supported by a grant from the Czech Ministry of Culture.
