On Wednesday, 11 February, our Embassy had the honor of welcoming students of the Czech language from the University of Helsinki to an exhibition of graphic works by prominent Czech artists Monika Immrová and Jindřich Zeithamml.
As part of their Czech studies, the students took advantage of a unique opportunity to experience contemporary Czech art and to explore Czech culture in broader and less common contexts. The exhibition’s curator, Petr Řehoř, spoke with the students not only about the artworks and artistic techniques, but also about the life paths of both artists and how these are reflected in their work. His engaging commentary offered the students deeper insight into the context in which the works of Immrová and Zeithamml are created. The discussion gradually expanded to include broader historical topics related to the history of Czechoslovakia.
The meeting took place in a friendly and inspiring atmosphere, enhanced not only by the artworks themselves, but also by the students’ lively interest.
