European Day of Languages 2025: Presentation of the Czech language and recital of The Little Prince

On Friday 26th of September 2025, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the European Day of Languages by promoting the Czech language in Helsinki Central Library Oodi.

During the event, students had the opportunity to learn about various European languages through activities prepared by embassies, cultural and language institutes of the EU countries, and the Finnish Association of the Deaf.

As part of this program, in cooperation with the Embassies of Poland and Slovakia in Finland, we focused on our common linguistic heritage at the Slavic languages booth. Here, we welcomed 247 students and 18 teachers from 15 different schools in several blocks throughout the day. We engaged them in various games that illustrated the similarities and differences between our languages.

In the afternoon, we celebrated Europe's linguistic diversity through the timeless work The Little Prince by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, one of the most translated books in the world. Excerpts from this story about friendship, love, and the search for meaning in life were read in several European languages, including Czech, as well as in sign languages.

Thanks to the European Commission Representation in Finland for organizing this wonderful annual event. We look forward to seeing you again next fall!
