Enchanting evening with soprano Ludmila Pergelová and pianist Esa Ylönen in Helsinki

On 30 September 2024, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki hosted a vocal recital at Johanneksenkirkko with soprano Ludmila Pergelová and pianist Esa Ylönen.

Ludmila Pergelová, a graduate of the Pardubice Conservatory and currently a student at the University of Ostrava, has established herself as a promising talent on the international stage. She has performed with prominent orchestras such as the Žilina State Chamber Orchestra and the Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, and has won prizes at numerous prestigious competitions, including the Saint-Saëns International Music Competition and the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition. Her performance in Helsinki demonstrated her versatility and emotional depth, captivating the audience with works by legendary composers.

Esa Ylönen, a graduate of the Sibelius Academy, has had a distinguished career as a pianist, composer and arranger. Renowned for his work with orchestras throughout Europe and his extensive experience as an accompanist, Ylönen's refined technique and deep musicality were a perfect match for Pergelová's voice. His interpretation of the classical repertoire, combined with his vast experience in chamber music, added a profound layer to the evening's performance.

The programme included a carefully curated selection of pieces including Dvořák's 'V národním tónu', Schubert's 'Ave Maria' and opera arias by Mozart, Rossini and Puccini. The concert was a wonderful celebration of classical music and an important cultural event in the Year of Czech Music 2024.
