Journalism Excellence Awards 2026

The 2026 Journalism Excellence Awards were presented in Strasbourg on the margins of No Hate Speech Week. This initiative recognises journalistic work with a significant social impact. A total of five laureates received the awards this year, including Czech journalist Jana Baudyšová.
The Journalism Excellence Awards, organised by the Council of Europe's Roma and Travellers Division, highlight exceptional media contributions that challenge prejudice and discrimination while promoting fair, ethical, and inclusive journalism. The central theme focused on ethical reporting on Roma and Travellers, as well as combating anti-Gypsyism through the media.
Five media professionals from Council of Europe member states received awards in categories including investigative journalism, Roma history and Holocaust remembrance, and youth journalism. Jana Baudyšová, editor-in-chief of the magazine Romano voďi, won the "Best Interview" category. She was recognised for her interview with Tore-Jarl Bielenberg regarding the First World Romani Congress.
The award ceremony for the third edition of the Journalism Excellence Awards took place on 18 June 2026. The awards were presented by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, and Frédéric Fautrier, Director General of the Ministry of Interior of Monaco, representing the Monegasque Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Gwendolyn Albert accepted the award on behalf of Jana Baudyšová.
