Czech That Film Festival 2025

As part of this year’s Czech Heritage Week in Chicago, the exceptional Czech That Film festival will showcase a selection of the best contemporary Czech cinema. The festival is organized in collaboration with the T. G. Masaryk Czech School, the Czechoslovak Heritage Museum, the Prague Committee of CSCI, Facets Cinema, and the University of Chicago. It offers a diverse lineup of films for both adults and younger audiences. 

Czech That Film is a unique opportunity to explore modern Czech filmmaking, experience powerful stories, and connect with the Czech-American community in Chicago. Come get inspired and discover what Czech cinema has to offer—from gripping dramas and playful animations to documentary journeys into places where history is being made. 

 

Festival Program and Ticket Reservations 

Our Lovly Pig Slaughter / Mord  

This film takes you to a Moravian village shaken by a tragic death. Old grudges, family secrets, and tense neighborly relations slowly surface, revealing that rural silence may hide much more than it seems. A raw drama about guilt, memory, and what can divide or unite a small community.

Girl America / Amerikánka 

A gripping drama about a childhood without security, the power of imagination, and the longing for freedom. The film, awarded multiple Czech Lions—including for cinematography, production design, and costumes—is one of the most notable Czech cinematic achievements in recent years.

Living Large / Život k sežrání 

An animated film for younger audiences about difference, acceptance, and the search for identity. With playfulness and warmth, it tackles serious themes and shows that weakness can become strength, and closeness can be found where we least expect it.

War Correspondent / Válečný zpravodaj 

A documentary following Czech journalist Martin Dorazín as he travels to places where history is written under fire. It offers both personal and professional testimony about the price of courage and the dangers of everyday life for ordinary people.
