26th Forum 2000 in Prague dedicated to Ukraine with Romanian participation

The Forum 2000, founded by President Václav Havel and Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, took place in Prague from 31st August to 2nd September 2022. This year's 26th annual conference, entitled "Democracy's Clear and Present Danger: How Do We Respond?"  was dedicated to the fundamental geopolitical changes caused by the outbreak of war in Europe. At a time when Ukrainians are bravely defending their country against Russian aggression, the conference included an extraordinary "Forum for Ukraine" that addressed Ukraine's post-war future at the heart of the European and global democratic community. The Forum for Ukraine took place after the informal meeting of Foreign Ministers (Gymnich) under the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU.  Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský invited Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu to the Forum 2000.

The Czech Foreign Minister invited his Romanian counterpart, Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, to address Forum 2000. Minister Aurescu participated in a ministerial panel entitled "Secure Wider Europe: A Vision for Success?", where together with the Lithuanian Minister for European Affairs, Gabriel Landsbergis, the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, and Graham Stuart, the UK Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, they discussed issues related to transatlantic unity and coordination in response to current challenges, as well as support for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. The debate also addressed the EU's strategy in the Eastern Neighbourhood, including efforts to strengthen the security and democratic resilience of neighbouring states in the current context dominated by Russian aggression in Ukraine and the challenges associated with its development.
