Are you interested in Czech language and improving your Czech in combination with a deeper knowledge of Czech culture and history? Apply for the Summer School of Slavonic Studies that offers intensive Czech language courses at universities in Czechia for summer season of 2025.
Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies (SSSS) are study courses organised by several public universities in Czechia. The courses are held annually during July and August. Their length varies from 3 to 4 weeks. The length of the course is determined by the organising school.
The courses are intended for international students, professionals (teachers, translators, interpreters) and academics in the field of Czech or Slavonic studies who are over 18 years old. However, they are also open to all those interested in Czech language, literature, history and culture.
As part of their educational blocks, the organizing schools offer Czech language courses at various levels, seminars focused on Czech literature, culture and history, leisure activities including theatre, music and dance performances, excursions and sightseeing trips.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic offers 4 scholarship places to Romanian applicants at the following universities:
- Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University Brno 1
- Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc 2
- Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice 1
The scholarships include of tuition fees, language lessons/ seminars, accommodation and meals, and free admission to cultural activities organized within the SSSS.
General information on the conditions of scholarship stays is published on the website of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. The application form can also be found on the website of the Ministry of Education.
Important note for the applicants: the application form includes a declaration that the applicant can attend the entire duration of the SSSS course. If the applicant does not attend more than 4 days of the course, a substitute will be offered to take his place.
Candidates fill in the application form and attach their CV in Czech or English. The completed application form, together with CV and a copy of the identity document, should be sent to the Embassy's e-mail address at bucharest.consulate@mzv.gov.cz no later than 14 March 2025.
Once the applications are closed, the selected candidates will be asked by the Embassy to submit their application with the required documents electronically (in PDF format) via the SSSS online registration portal. The portal will be open from 15 to 31 March 2025.
Successful scholarship applicants will be notified directly by the university institution. The selected candidate should confirm his participation in SSSS course promptly.
The summer school is also open to those who do not apply for a government scholarship and are willing to bear the costs of their stay in Czechia. In this case, applicants should contact the above-mentioned institutions directly.
