Photography Exhibition in Beirut

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lebanon and the Fondation Audi hosted an exhibition of Bassama Lahoud´s photographs in the beautiful premises of Villa Audi in downtown Beirut. The photographer and professor visited the Czech Republic on several occasions from 1989 to the present day and the exhibition is a testimony of these trips. The vernissage was held on 12 February 2015 and the exhibition was open to the public until 26 February.

The opening was attended by representatives from the cultural and academic scene, diplomats and local politicians, students, expatriates and friends of the Czech Republic. In his speech, the Ambassador recalled the commemoration of the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 and the photographer´s ties to the Czech Republic – during the Lebanese Cultural Week in Prague in 1997 his photographs were shown in Gallery Mánes and Nadim Karam´s sculptures were installed on Mánes Bridge. Bassama Lahoud is a professor of architecture and artistic photography at the Lebanese American University and an ardent promoter of partnerships with Czech universities specialized in artistic photograhpy.

All the important media were present and the exhibition was well received by the press. The Ambassador and Bassam Lahoud were mentioned in the main dailies and gave several interviews to local television channels OTV and MTV. These channels equally prepared separate shows about the Czech Republic as a tourist destination.
