On July 15, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing organized an event aimed at presenting both modern Czech products and the rich technical heritage of the country to the Chinese public. The highlight of the program was the participation of a historic vehicle expedition that visited Beijing on its journey from Prague to Osaka, Japan.
Three legendary Czech automobiles were showcased on the embassy grounds – Tatra 603, Škoda Octavia, and Škoda 100 – serving as symbolic reminders of the golden era of Czechoslovak engineering. These vehicles were part of a larger convoy of seven vintage cars, specifically the ROBOT expedition, for which Beijing was a stopover on the Prague–Osaka route.
But beyond nostalgia, the event also focused on presenting current Czech exports. As part of a Project for economic diplomacy, 19 Czech companies from various sectors exhibited their products, with an emphasis on the food and beverage industry. Visitors could explore a wide range of products – from traditional brands like Becherovka, Moser, and Pilsner Urquell, to modern producers of sports nutrition, designer foods, and mineral waters. This diverse offering gave Chinese visitors the opportunity to discover the quality of goods “Made in Czechia” and establish new business connections.
A major partner of the event was Škoda Auto, which has had a strong presence in China since 2007 through a joint venture with SAIC Volkswagen. The company was represented not only by its current models but also by its historic vehicles, emphasizing the continuity and quality of Czech automotive production and engineering in general.
The event also presented Czechia as a tourist destination. Visitors were treated to captivating footage of Czech landscapes made by CzechTourism and could take part in a competition to win round-trip tickets from Beijing to Prague, offered by Hainan Airlines. The event was also supported by CzechTrade, an agency that has long assisted Czech companies in entering the Chinese market.
In total, the event welcomed over 250 guests from the business, diplomatic, and cultural spheres. It also had a significant impact on social media, where photos of vintage cars and Czech products received very positive responses.
