The urban SUV, the Škoda Kamiq, celebrated its world premiere on 23 April at the Czech Embassy in Beijing. Following on from the Škoda Kodiaq and the Škoda Karoq, the new SUV is to become the third member of the Škoda SUV family. The urban SUV will be launched onto the market in June.
On the occasion of marking the 100th anniversary of Czech independence, the new model was showcased in the presence of the Czech Ambassador Bedřich Kopecký to highlight the long history of Czech industry. Besides introducing the new model, Bernhard Maier, Škoda’s Chief Executive Officer, described the Strategy 2025 and the importance of SUV segment in China.
The Kamiq’s design comes with all the features of Škoda’s powerful SUV design language. The new model will impress customers in China not only with its premium design, but also with spacious interior and its advanced technology.
The Kamiq is aimed at young, urban customers who wish to maintain their digital lifestyle even whilst on the go in their car and who desire modern connectivity solutions. Therefore, the new SUV is equipped with an intelligent connectivity system that has been newly developed by Škoda. The technological highlight of the system is the artificial intelligence-powered voice assistance.
Škoda’s sales in China have been growing annually. The new Kamiq along with other SUVs will help Škoda to achieve its goal to nearly double its annual vehicle sales in China to 600,000 by 2020 from 325,000 last year.
The SUV segment in China has undergone a dynamic growth in past several years. The Czech car manufacturer is prepared to respond to the changing market demand by launching another SUV model in 2018. „China will then become the only market in the world with four Škoda SUV cars”, revealed Alain Favey, company’s head of sales and marketing.
Immediately after the world premiere, Škoda will present the Kamiq to the public at the ‘Auto China 2018’, which will take place from 25 April to 4 May in Beijing.
