Perspectives of cooperation in nuclear safety between the Czech Republic and China

Ambassador-at-large for energy security and Government Attorney for the completion of the Temelin nuclear power plant, Václav Bartuška, and Vice Chairman of the State Administration for Nuclear Safety (SANS), Petr Krs, visited on 9 - 15 April 2011 China.

Accompanied by the Czech Ambassador to China, LiborSečka, and the Economic Counsellor, Petr Vávra, held in Beijing talks with Secretary General of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), Wang Yiren, on possible cooperationin nuclearsafety, sharingexperience in building of nuclear power sector and knowledgein related areas (eg. uranium mining, dosimetric measurements etc.).


In the second half of the visit, the Czech representatives were guests of the TaishanNuclear PowerJoint VentureCo. Ltd.whose partnersare China's energy group ChinaGuangdong NuclearPower Co.(CGNPC, 70% share)and French giant Electricitéde France (EdF, 30% share). Thecompany is nowbuilding a newnuclear power plant near the city of Taishan in Guangdong province, which will be producing in near future the electricity in its total six reactors. For four of them (each rated at 1750MW output), key technology is supplied by the French company Areva, which, among other things, is one of the major candidates on the completion of the Temelin NPP. The Czech delegation had the opportunity to obtain information on thebuilding progress of the nuclear power plant as well as to discuss the  enhancing of the security of nuclear energy in the world after the accident in NPP Fukushima, Japan.
