State visit of the President of the Czech Republic in China

On invitation of President Xi Jinping, President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman paid State visit to the People's Republic of China on 24th – 27th October 2014.

His State visit began in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where he delivered a speech at the official opening of West China International Fair. In Chengdu he had a meeting with Vice Premier Ma Kai and an official lunch hosted by Sichuan Party Secretary Wang Dongming and Sichuan Governor Wei Hong. President Miloš Zeman also came to see the exhibition of the Czech companies in the EU pavilion of the Fair and spoke with Czech businesspeople present. The Czech stand presented successful Czech traditional products – Škoda cars, Bohemian crystal glass and beer – as well as sectors with high potential of growth in China – small aircrafts and financial services of Home Credit. The Czech Republic was also introduced as a perfect tourist destination for Chinese travelers. In the presence of President Zeman and Party Secretary Wang, Governor of Central Bohemian Region Mr. Miloš Petera and Governor Wei Hong signed a document of enhancing cooperation between Central Bohemian Region and Sichuan Province.

Second destination of the State visit of President Miloš Zeman was city of Tianjin where he had an official meeting with Party Secretary Sun Chunlan. Tianjin is not only a major economic and technological hub in northeastern China, but also the destination of the largest Czech investments in China. In the presence of President Zeman and Party Secretary Sun, Governor of South Bohemian Region Jiří Zimola and Executive Vice Mayor of Tianjin Cui Jintu signed a memorandum of cooperation between South Bohemian Region and Municipality of Tianjin.

On Sunday 26th October 2014 President Miloš Zeman attended Business Seminar for Czech and Chinese entrepreneurs organized jointly by Bank of China and Home Credit and delivered a speech about the potential of Czech Chinese cooperation. Later he visited Renmin University and had a discussion with its students about economic, political and international issues.

The main day of the State visit on 27th October 2014 President Miloš Zeman met with his counterpart President Xi Jinping and was a guest of honour to the State visit welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During their meeting the Presidents spoke about the high level of bilateral relations, the interest in enhancing economic cooperation of both countries, the plan to establish a direct flight connection between Prague and a major Chinese city, tourism and other issues. President Xi Jinping organised State Gala Dinner for President Miloš Zeman. President Zeman also met with Premier Li Keqiang.

The official presidential delegation was accompanied by a business delegation of more than 50 representatives of Czech companies. They attended West China International Fair, two business seminars, held B2B discussions and signed a number of contracts with their Chinese business partners.
