Beijing Celebrated New Year′s Eve with the Czech Philharmonic

On December 31st 2015 several thousand Beijingers celebrated the end of the year 2015 and the beginning of the year 2016 at a concert by the Czech Philharmonic.

On New Year′s Eve the Czech Philharmonic – under the baton of conductor Petr Altrichter – played for a large audience in the prominent venue in China – Great Hall of the People. The most recognised and internationally renowned Czech orchestra presented some famous pieces of the Czech classical music by Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana including the 8th Symphony by Antonín Dvořák. Traditionally good cooperation between the Czech Republic and China was symbolised by the beautiful performance of the Beethoven‘s piano concerto No. 1 (third movement) for which the Philharmonic was joined by excellent Chinese pianist Yuan Fang.

The Chinese classical music lovers were especially pleased when they listened to several Chinese classical music pieces such as Ode to the Red Flag at the concert.

The Czech Philharmonic held concerts also in Wuxi, Shanghai and Guangzhou within the New Year′s Tour in China. Chinese classical music lovers will have the next chance to experience the music by this unique Czech orchestra during its China Tour in autumn 2016.

CCTV screened the concert on its channels and local media reported about the event:
