
Diplomats of the Czech Embassy in Beijing took part in a commemorative event on the sad anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Amidst the solemn remembrance of the two-year anniversary of Russia's war against Ukraine, a poignant gathering took place on February 22nd 2024, organized by the Polish and Ukrainian embassies with the patronage of the European Delegation in China and honorary participation of the US and UK ambassadors. This event not only commemorated the lives lost but also served as a resounding testament to the unwavering unity and support for Ukraine's struggle for peace and sovereignty.
The event kicked off with stirring speeches from the Ukrainian Ambassador, Pavlo Riabikin, followed by speeches by the Polish Ambassador, Jakub Kumoch, Ambassador to the EU Delegation, Jorge Toledo, Ambassador of the United States, Nicholas Burns and Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Caroline Wilson. Each address echoed a unified theme of solidarity, emphasizing the importance of standing with Ukraine in its valiant fight for the safety and security of Europe. They solemnly acknowledged the sacrifices made and reiterated their unwavering support for Ukraine's cause.
Beyond the speeches, the event offered various interactive experiences designed to foster empathy and understanding. The movie theater at the Polish embassy screened "20 Days in Mariupol," a poignant film that provided insight into the harrowing realities faced by Ukrainian civilians in the midst of conflict. The screening was met with overwhelming attendance, underscoring the importance of bearing witness to the human toll of war.
Meanwhile, another room hosted a virtual reality simulation, transporting visitors into the heart of cities devastated by conflict and bombings. Through modern technology, participants were able to witness firsthand the devastation wrought upon Ukrainian communities, further strengthening their resolve to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The embassy itself served as a canvas for expressions of hope and support, adorned with art created by children who conveyed heartfelt messages of encouragement to Ukrainian soldiers, wishing them good health and luck in their endeavors.
The event proved to be a tremendous success, drawing a high number of visitors who came together to honor the memory of those lost and to reaffirm their commitment to supporting Ukraine in its quest for peace and security.
