Kafka: A Man of His and Our Time - Exhibition, dance duo and film theatre performance

In honour of the 100th anniversary of the death of one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, Franz Kafka, the embassies of the Czech Republic, Austria and Israel joined forces and organized a unique cultural event called "Kafka: A Man of Ours and Our Time". Held at the Drama Spirit Theatre gallery in the prestigious art district "798", the event granted the visitors a deep insight into Kafka's life and work through exhibitions, dance performances and film screenings.

The Czech Embassy contributed to this event with an exhibition illustrated by renowned Czech artist Renáta Fučíková. Her work, characterized by an engraving technique and a unique style, presents the life of Franz Kafka, his family, his relationships and especially his literary work in an engaging and comprehensible way. The author of the text for the exhibition is Radek Malý, two-time winner of the Magnesia Litera award, poet, translator and Germanist. The exhibition thus not only presents Kafka as a man of his time, but also as a timeless personality whose work still influences literature today.

The Austrian Embassy then enriched the program with a performance by the Kafka Dances dance duo, comprised of Charlotte Aigner and Žiga Jereb. These artists interpreted Kafka's texts through a combination of live performance and dance, bringing a unique and emotional perspective on Kafka's work. The Israeli embassy offered a film screening of a short theatre performance based on Kafka's texts performed by the Ruth Kanner Theatre Group.

"Kafka: A Man of His and Our Time" was not only a reminder of an important literary figure, but also a celebration of the cultural symbiosis represented by the coexistence of Czechs, Jews and Germans in Prague. The Drama Spirit Theatre Gallery, located in the famous "798" art district, provided the ideal space for this event. The whole event thus not only recalled Kafka's work and life, but also emphasized the importance of intercultural dialogue and cooperation. "Kafka: A Man of His and Our Time" was a successful celebration of Kafka's legacy and showed that his work is still relevant and inspiring to artists and readers around the world.
