2007-Humanitarian aid collected in the Czech Republic to help Greece affected by catastrophic fires

Major humanitarian organizations in the Czech Republic responded immediately to the reports on the disastrous fires in Greece and since the beginning of September they have been collecting a financial aid for the fire-stricken areas through voluntary donations. Numbers of special bank accounts have been announced for this purpose.


Major humanitarian organizations in the Czech Republic responded immediately to the reports on the disastrous fires in Greece and since the beginning of September they have been collecting a financial aid for the fire-stricken areas through voluntary donations. Numbers of special bank accounts have been announced for this purpose. Mobilization of these organizations was enhanced by mass queries and appeals of Czech citizens, and by the initiative of the Czech Embassy in Athens.

The Czech Red Cross as a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is going to have its special bank account open till the end of September 2007. Afterwards the collected money will be sent directly to the Greek Red Cross organization to assist the afflicted regions.

People in Need Association (Člověk v tísni) has launched a public money collection called «S.O.S. Greece » (SOS Řecko). Everybody who wants to contribute can donate money via the bank account or sending a phone text «SOSRECKO ». Their financial aid is intended to support activities for the restoration of damages mainly in the rural areas and the restitution of traditional agriculture as well.

A special bank account and phone text donations have been also set up by an affiliated branch of Adventist Development and Relief Agency ADRA-Czech Republic. This humanitarian organization is going to support restoration projects in cooperation with Greek associations and in this direction it has been already consulting other national branches of ADRA in Europe.
