Working visit of Czech senators in Ankara

On 13 – 15th May, 2026, delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic (Jiří Oberpfalzer, Vice-Chairman, Head of Delegation; Pavel Fischer, Tomáš Czernin) visited Ankara.
Accompanied by Ambassador Petr Štěpánek and Military and Air Attaché of the Czech Republic in the Republic of Türkiye Michal Bartoň, Czech senators first met with Deputy Minister of Interior of the Republic of Türkiye Bülent Turan and then visited the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Türkiye for a working meeting with Mjr. Gen. Ilkay Altindag, Director General for Defence and Security on issues connected with collective security within the NATO Alliance. On the first day of their visit, Czech senators also visited Aselsan military factory complex near Ankara, producing advanced electronic systems of defence industry, and in the evening hours, they met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye with Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Minister and Director General for EU Affairs, and were hosted for working dinner by MP Veysal Tipioglu, Vice-chairman of the Türkiye-Czech Parliamentary Group of Friends at the Turkish Great National Assembly.
On Thursday 14th May, Czech senators laid wreaths at the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at Anitkabir, from where they continued to the Turkish Great National Assembly (TBMM) complex for meeting and working lunch with MP Fuat Okay, the Chairman of the TBMM Foreign Affairs Committee, and other members of the Committee. In the afternoon hours the Czech senators met also with the TBMM Defence Committee Chairman PM Hulusi Akar and later visited the Turkish Aerospace Industries complex near Ankara.
