
Czech Ambassador met John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Nigeria, H.E. Pavel Mikeš met today January 17th 2018 with John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja.
The aim of the meeting was to pass the New Year's greetings and invitation to visit the Czech Republic. Cardinal John emphasis importance of interfaith dialogue, publishes books and gives lectures on the subject.
John Onaiyekan was born in 1944 in the town of Kabo in the present-day state of Kogi. He is a national of Yoruba. In 1980, Pope John Paul II appointed him as a member of the International Theological Commission. In 1984 he became Bishop of Ilorin (capital city of Kwara). In 1994, when the Archdiocese of Abuja was founded, he became its first Archbishop and has held this post till today. In 2012 Pope Benedict XVI named him Cardinal. In March 2013, he was a member of the conclave which elected Pope Francis.
