On January 18, 2016, the Ambassador Pavel Mikeš together with the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Niger Mr. Souleyman Abdou Niandou and the representative of Czech companies in Niger Mr. Oumar Boulamou handed over 40 books written by Czech authors or describing the Czech Republic to the Franco-Nigerien Cultural Center in Niamey (Centre culturel franco-nigérien - CCFN).
Nigerien readers can newly borrow French translations of the Czech literature from the classical authors like J. Arbes, K. Čapek, J. Hašek, L. Klíma, F. Kafka; through the famous ones of the period of the 50s and 60s such as M. Kundera or J. Škvorecký; to the contemporary writers J. Topol, P. Ouředník, I. Matoušek and K. Legátová, who was born 1919, but her excellent new works were published only a few years ago. They will also find among the donated books a work: Chanter l'existance, dedicated to the Congolese poet Sando Marteau and written by the Czech Africanist of the world importance Alena Rettová.
CCFN is also used as a library of the largest Nigerien university, Université Abdou Moumouni. Furthermore, the center presents a major cultural and educational place for the local public, as well as for the diplomatic and expatriate community in Niamey. Mr. Jérôme Labeur, General Secretary of CCFN, welcomed the book donation and he offered the Czech Embassy in Abuja the areas of CCFN for common cultural events like the exhibitions of Czech artists as well as the projections of Czech movies.
