The Ambassador Pavel Mikeš, with his wife Senait Mikešová and cultural attaché Marie Novotná, handed over the donation of Czech books to the Nile University in Abuja on February 7, 2017. The university is part of a network of Nigerian-Turkish primary, secondary schools and colleges.
The Vice Rector of the University prof. Hüseyin Sert took over the donation including about 70 books and magazines in the presence of most teachers. The presented titles contained the Czech classical prose like English and Arabic translations of the authors K. Čapek, J. Hašek, J. Neruda, L. Klíma, J. Werich, M. Kundera, B. Hrabal, I. Klíma as well as the works of contemporary writers like T. Zmeškal, J. Topol or M. Viewegh. There were also mostly English written science books from production of Czech universities, particularly the Charles University and the University of Hradec Králové (counting the scientific magazine called Journal Modern Africa). The publishing houses focused on Africa and the Arab world, such as the Dar ibn Rushd Publishing House of Brandýs nad Labem, or the publisher Pavel Mervart from Červený Kostelec, also presented their production among the donated books largely focused on a broad spectrum of humanities. Several books published in high quality by the publishing house KANT were devoted to the Czech art. Mrs. Mikešová personally handed over to the Vice Rector prof. H. Sert her favorite book War with the Newts from the famous Czech author Karel Čapek.
